Breakaway Music Festival is one of the biggest and best EDM festivals in the country. This year, we had the honor of capturing its essence at the festival's stop in Bonner Springs, Kansas on June 14th and 15th. With electrifying acts from world-famous DJs like Tiesto and Two Friends, and nonstop dancing at the Silent Disco, it was two days of pure vibes. So, let's break down Breakaway and if you haven't seen it yet, check out our video we posted interviewing festival goers about their festival red flags HERE!

Day one, driving to Bonner Springs, you could hear the music and feel your car vibrating from a mile away. Greeted by smiling faces and fans in amazing outfits, I knew the weekend was going to be a blast. Starting at the Launch Pad with some local DJs, I immediately dove into the dance party. Even in the 90-degree Kansas heat, everyone was partying like it didn’t matter. The Launch Pad was lined with sponsors like Ignite Vapes, Sunny D, and food trucks. Most importantly, Breakaway and Azura Amphitheater had FREE water refill stations (take notes, everyone), which was much appreciated. The Silent Disco, sponsored by Monaco, had over 30 DJs, and each one made me dance like no one was watching.

Heading to the main stage, I passed local vendors like From the From Earth Dispensaries and Loose Lucy’s for the best EDM needs and accessories. After grabbing a drink from the Celsius station, I caught some of the dopest sets ever. With incredible lighting and literal flames, these artists brought their best. The highlight of day one was Two Friends; their energy was top-notch and made Kansas feel like the #1 place they’ve ever played. I had never seen a saxophone shoot fire before, but I hope to see that again one day. I wasn’t sure if Day one could be beat, and then I went back Saturday for even more amazing sets, great food, fun fans, and an all around good time. Day two started at the main stage with a performance by Breakaway’s very own bad-ass ambassador, Anna Lillis (aka ALIL). Her set was the first female set I saw all weekend, and it was insane. Immediately after I was able to see another female set by Coco & Breezy at the Launch Pad stage. These two brought indie-beach-vibes to EDM and I loved it.

Both performances set the bar high for the rest of the day, matched by evening sets from Disco Lines and Dom Dolla. One of my favorite parts of day two was focusing on fan interactions and their outfits. There were full group outfits, from CostCo to a real Bachelorette Party, showing how much people love EDM festivals. Unlike other festivals, everyone seemed to just want to have a good time without the tension of who the biggest fan was. The night, headlined by Slander, was filled with insane dance moves, more flames, and great music.

I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience at an EDM festival. Seeing so many different types of people come together to enjoy such a unique music experience was the coolest part of it all.
